8 Things Sega Wants You To Forget About Sonic The Hedgehog
3. The Original Game Contains A Middle Finger To SEGA
If there's one thing that all developers and publishers are painfully aware of in this day and age, it's that disgruntled employees with a platform are a dangerous thing, as social media and public backlash can doom a company overnight.
Therefore SEGA probably weren't too happy about people knowing that the original Sonic game actually contains a rather pointed barb directed at them from Yuji Naka.
You see, at this point in time, SEGA were dead against producers and designers getting their names featured in credits at the end, with their reasoning being that it was meant to be a project seperate from those who made it.
Obviously this went down like a lead baloon with the actual designers, and so Yuij Naka took it upon himself to go against orders and programme in the names of his co-workers. He did so in a rather clever way, in that they are featured on a black screen at the start of the game in black text, which would only be revealed with a code.
It's true that SEGA might not have noticed, but they certainly would want you to forget this clash of ideals regardless.
