8 Things Steam OS Needs To Become An Alternative To Windows
5. Well Designed User Interface
SteamOS is going to be all about speed, interactivity, efficiency and looks. Thus, it has to be flashy and outperform the infamous Metro interface (however easy that might seem). From what we've seen for now, it's going to go with a sleek Linux look with a dash of console UI sprinkled across it. That could work pretty well, since Valve wants you to be able to do everything without ever having to resort to a mouse. However, let's not forget that most of us is still going to use the old mouse and keyboard combo so the desktop interface has to be up to the task, too. What we'll be looking at once we get our paws on the final version of SteamOS is going to be a combination of regular PC desktop and the simplistic console launchers. As I've said, this has the potential to be a great merger if Valve does the job properly. And from what we've seen for now, it's looking good.
