8 Times Celebrities Spectacularly Failed At Suing The Gaming Industry

5. Beyonce Vs. Gate Five (Starpower: Beyonce)

Time to switch things up for one entry, as this little tale was a sad one until it was finally settled out of court. Let's say you're an unknown game developer just getting by, pondering a million ideas at once as you look at the ever-fluctuating chart of what's 'in' at the moment, then suddenly you manage to put a deal together with none-other than Beyonce. Like the Beyonce, who then goes onto... pull out of the whole thing a week before Christmas. The developer in question was Gate Five, and as a result of the singer's cold feet had to lay off 70 employees right before the yuletide bells had even begun to ring. The reason behind the back-out was that ol' Queen B was asking for $5 million in financing for the project; something that the developers were in the process of obtaining until her recant made their backers pull the plug. Gate Five then sued Beyonce to the tune of $107 million based off how popular the game would surely have been, and they won too; with both parties reaching a settlement out of court that was based out of the initial contract between the two. Details have never been confirmed other than that both parties were apparently satisfied, but judging by the fact we never saw anything from Gate Five's since, it seems they've bee thoroughly put off.
