8 Times The Internet Lied To You About Your Childhood Pokemon Cards

4. Venusaur - Base Set

We come to the big ol’ leafy boy himself, Venusaur. Shout out to anyone who picked Bulbasaur as their starter, he is clearly the best. Of the first four Pokémon Trading Card sets Venusaur was only found in the Base Set and completes the holy trinity of Pokémon Starters.

The interesting fact about the final evolutions of the starters is baring Blastoise they are all quite bad from gameplay and competitive point of view but because of how they resonate with players they are still the most desirable cards from the early days.

Nostalgia and recognisability make for sales and Venusaur has that covered. What you need to pay attention to is the printing and date of your card. If the date at the bottom has 1999-2000 this means your Venusaur is from the last ever print run of Base Set, the fourth edition, these were primarily shipped to the UK because the demand was still so high.

A near Mint Venusaur from the fourth edition will set you back around £45.
