8 Times The Internet Lied To You About Your Childhood Pokemon Cards

1. Charizard - Base Set

Surely you knew this would be at number one. Charizard was the card everyone wanted, it had the highest HP (hit points), the highest attack and it even had a cool Pokemon Power in Energy Burn.

What makes Charizard a true icon is how everyone who collected Pokemon cards from 'back in the day' has their own story about this guy. Whether it was the first time you pulled one from a pack or how you watched your best friend drop his entire collection while walking out of PE only for other kids to yell "SCRAMBLE" and watch in horror as they were frantically picked up by anyone who could get their hands on them.

This is what really connects us to these cards, they are a part of our history, our becoming.

Nowadays Charizard is considered the crown jewel of Base Set cards and its price is increasing each year. Most sites constantly refer to 1st edition or Shadowless copies, these are by far the most expensive versions of Charizard but also the hardest to come by.

The term Shadowless refers to the lack of shade or shadow around the art box of the card, text and energy symbols, these were the very first printings and had a very low print run.

The version most people have is the Unlimited copy, which is getting harder and harder to find and will set you back a whopping £150!
