8 Times Video Game Violence Went Too Far This Generation

1. Outlast: Whistleblower's Mutilated Science Projects

Known for indulging in gore and horror to its furthest extremes, the Outlast franchise is home to plenty of violent moments that have pushed the envelope, but none have come close to matching the excess found in the Whistleblower DLC.

A side-story set during the events of the original game, one lengthy section has players attempting to escape from the clutches of Eddie Gluskin, otherwise known as 'The Groom', an inmate trying to find himself a wife in order to start a family.

The problem, however, is that the Mount Massive asylum is an all-male institution. Not letting that stop him, the surgeon has captured dozens of test subjects to try and carve himself a makeshift bride, forcibly making them undergo a gruesome sex-change surgery.

The procedure is more twisted than that though, as not only does the good doctor constantly boast about his work, but the player is invited to marvel at the madman's results in all their glory.

One failed attempt goes completely overboard however, acting as a horrifically demented take on a birthing scene. Depicting a fully-naked victim tied to a bed with their genitals removed and a head sticking out from the wound, Outlast conjures an outrageous image that has to be seen to be believed.
