Crash 4 is a video game that makes me happy for so many reasons.

Firstly, the fact it even exists will always feel like a warm hug, as it comes from a franchise that is so beloved, but which has had so many stop-start entries, it never felt like it would truly hit its stride ever again. To then add in the fact that this latest entry is not just good, but one of the best Crash games ever really feels like an underdog tale fully realized.

Crash 4 is a title that isn't afraid to take risks, adding in new characters, a host of new mechanics, and of course was not afraid to break the very spirit of gamers looking to 100% the title thanks to its ridiculous hidden boxes, numerous level tweaks that needed to be replayed over and over and utterly brutal time trial modes, but one of it's best tweaks was actually it's most simple.

I'm speaking of course about the under shadow ring that appears to showcase to the player where their character will land. No longer will you have to guess your platform placement as was the case in the N.Sane Trilogy, and no matter your height or indeed whether you're even on screen, you will have a precise landing zone to work with.

I cannot express how brilliant this tiny tweak is, and it's put to incredible use in the levels within Crash 4, which often demand pinpoint platforming. Imagine trying to do these moves without it... *shudders*
