“Oh look, a health kit! Well isn’t that convenient? I was running low on health and could really do with a quick boost.” These are your last thoughts before you make the innocent mistake of unleashing hell upon yourself.

There are a number of seemingly innocuous paths and choices in Doom and its following instalments that will launch you into a world of pain.

Something as simple as picking up a much needed health kit can release enemies from camouflaged doors, picking up a stimpack in a hallway can get you attacked from behind.

If you make the mistake of letting your guard down you can end up dead, and also probably feeling very annoyed at yourself for falling for it. The lesson we have to take away from this is useful not just in Doom but in life:

If something looks too good to be true, say, a health pack in a weirdly empty and quiet room, it probably is.
