8 Unforgivable Errors Every Video Game Movie Makes

3. Terrible Dialogue

Super Mario Bros Goomba
New Line Cinema

Here is what could be considered to be a combination of the worst writing and line delivery ever to make it to cinemas.

As if that's not enough to make you weep for the lost art of scriptwriting, here are some more notable examples of terrible dialogue from video game adaptations are:

"You see, your father has been the milk of my business. But even milk has an expiration date." – M. Bison, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li
“This isn't a country, it's an ice cube!” – Bryce, Tomb Raider

There have been more profound things written on the walls of public toilets than the dross listed above. It makes you wonder if the people scripting these films have ever had an actual conversation with another human being.

Solution

Moviegoers aren’t necessarily asking for Shakespearian levels of wordplay and wit, but that doesn’t mean the writing can be so mind-blowingly awful that it lowers your IQ just for having heard it spoken aloud.

Taking slightly more time with the script or simply letting someone with a better understanding of how words fit together instead of shooting straight from a rushed first draft may help to weed out these abominable one-liners.
