8 Valid Concerns About 2019's Remaining Video Games
8. The Epitome Of Tired Looter Shooter Design - Borderlands 3
Did Gearbox pull the trigger on green-lighting Borderlands 3 because they've had a disastrous generation, or because it made sense of the franchise?
Because despite an abysmal live reveal dogged by disconnects and single digit frame rates, the "king of looter shooters" has returned to the public eye with... walking guns?
Literally, if you were going to list the things that make this feel like a justifiable sequel rather than "just more Borderlands", one of the only notable new mechanics is having a collection of guns run alongside you. There are some terminology changes and balance tweaks, but the entire marketing campaign has leant on "You guys want guns, right? Here are infinite guns!"
All well and good, but when the four-tiered loot system you pioneered has been done to death and back, Borderlands 3 better have way more tricks up its sleeve.
Just being more of the same with a slightly better graphics engine won't cut it for all but the most forgiving fans.
