8 Video Game Bosses That Subtly Told You How To Beat Them

Far Cry: the series where the bad guys are actually super helpful.

When you take a jog down memory lane and think about all the games you've played, it's often the boss battles that will jump out as the most challenging and fulfilling parts of the experience.

While running down corridors and shooting things is fun, those in-between sections of a game are sometimes not as memorable as the epic showdowns against powerful behemoths, the intense hand-to-hand brawls against skilled assassins, and that time when you had to shoot pockets of blue resin to take down a crazy Serbian warlord.

However, their status as the biggest and the baddest can also make them a nightmare to defeat. Most bosses are placed at the end of a long and difficult single-player campaign, while others can appear midway through a story and be equally as tricky to conquer. We've all looked up strategy guides too - don't be ashamed.

But some bosses don't want you to Google around for tips on how to beat them, and instead, they'll give you cheeky little hints through their dialogue that clue you in on how to take them down, often in a quick and efficient manner.

8. The Dark Prince (Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones)

Throughout Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones, the titular Prince starts to develop a sinister alter-ego called the Dark Prince. During the campaign he acts like a devil on the Prince's shoulder, and even takes over his body in certain gameplay segments, trying to get the goody two-shoes Prince to give in to his darker impulses.

This is also his goal in the game's final encounter, with the Dark Prince trying to convince the Prince to "embrace" him, and funnily enough, actually listening to the bad guy will help you out in this case, because he also says a few things that subtly clue you in on how to conclude the level.

After defeating The Vizier, the Dark Prince will appear and try to take you over once again. This leads to the final boss battle - which basically amounts to some repetitive platforming inside a bright white haze - where the Dark Prince will taunt you and ramble on about how the Prince is a moron who's wasting his power.

He'll also try to convince the Prince to join him so they can rule together, saying "do not fight me. Set down your sword. Embrace me." Naturally, you'll ignore this, because your first instinct as a gamer will be to slash the Dark Prince with your weapon, but that's not how you win here (your attacks don't even have an effect on him).

What you're actually supposed to do is to take the Dark Prince's advice to not fight him. In the final room, stop trying to attack him and simply walk up the stairs to trigger the final cutscene. While you do this, he'll yell at you to come back and face him, but don't listen. He's just a bit salty.
