8 Video Game Bugs That Literally Destroyed Your Game

2. THUG 2 - Mean Messages

Whereas most other bugs on this list were outside of the player's control and ended up turning them into a victim of conflicting code, the bug that dominated Tony Hawk's Underground 2 so much so that it shut down the game's servers for a while, was something that could be triggered by gamers themselves and was weaponized to devastating effect.

In a move that would come back to grind their dreams into dust, the developers included a messaging feature that would allow players to send short messages to one another.

Expecting this to be used for simple back and forths, the devs rolled out this feature without a worry, especially seeing as the messages were capped in length to prevent spam.

Or at least they were capped, unless you plugged a USB keyboard in.

By plugging in a keyboard, you could break the limit cap on a message, thus giving birth to an abysmal bug. By sending a message over the limit, the player who received the message would have their game completely crash, and as soon as trolls discovered this, they abused the feature so much that online play was suspended until a fix could be found.
