8 Video Game Characters Who Desperately Need Therapy

1. Kratos - God of War

If most were asked to describe God of War's Kratos in one word, it'd surely be "angry."

In the original run of games his guilt-riddled trauma over being tricked by Ares into killing his own wife and daughter fuels his rage-filled rampage, and as cathartic as the violence might feel for players, it's far from a healthy or constructive outlet for the Ghost of Sparta himself.

Kratos is, not unlike Max Payne, a man who lives for revenge in the earlier God of War games, though 2018's new take offered up a more tactile, nuanced approach to Kratos' character, as he attempts to reckon for his brutal past by being a fitting father to his son Atreus.

The newer games make a concerted effort to show Kratos fighting to triumph over his entrenched toxic masculinity, though as is true of any one of us, he's certainly a work-in-progress.

Kratos has made great in-roads, but the best thing he can do now is find a nice comfy psychiatrist's couch to lay back on.
