Ahhh the Paper Mario series, what a beautiful gaming crumb of an offshoot from the main Mario mustache.

When people talk about their favorite Mario games, if a Paper Mario title isn't in their immediate top three then it's clear they've never played them, as if that person had well they'd be wearing your eardrum down with loud praise for these fantastic games. The writing, the characters, and the absolute sledgehammer they take to the fourth wall and video game conventions mark these titles as games never afraid to poke fun at themselves in order to provide the player with a good time.

Take for example how Thousand Year Door tackles the subject of "video game curses".

In most video games, a curse would be just that, an absolute carbuncle on your enjoyment that will limit your abilities or make your attacks about as deadly as a passive-aggressive post-it note. But not here baby! Becuase the "curses" that Mario comes across all give him amazing powers like the ability to turn himself into a paper airplane or a boat or even to...TURN SIDEWAYS!?!

It's a bit confusing at first why these Black Demon Chests are offering such boons to Mario and chums until you realize that each of the demons inside was once actually heroes of the land and are using their own cursed state to dole out blessings in disguise in order to help our paper ex-plumber! So load me up! I'll take 'em all!
