8 Video Game Enemies Who Won't Stay Dead!

Just Die Already!

There's nothing quite like the feeling of taking down a tough enemy in a video game. The failed attempts, the patterns you had to memorize, and all of the windows of opportunity you needed to exploit all finally paid off in a moment of glorious triumph. As we sink to our knees and breathe heavy, our armor pulling out tired bones down into the ground, we feel the sweat of our dedication run down our faces.

Finally, the battlefield is quiet. At last, we have secured victory.

OH BLOODY HELL WHY IS IT GETTING BACK UP AGAIN!?! *Sigh* Guess we're doing this again!

Yes my friends, it seems that certain video games absolutely love to play the "fake-out death" card whenever possible, lulling the player into a false sense of security before suddenly ramping up the action once more with another battle, and others go one step further than this, by all but flatly stating that you'd killed an enemy, only for them to show up again in the next installment with a "did you miss me" smile plastered all over their smug face.

NO, WE DIDN'T PAL! GET IN THE GROUND AND STAY THERE!

8. Guardian Ape - Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

I can't think of a better example in recent memory of a boss "gotcha" moment like the first time players "defeat" the Guardian Ape in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. After felling the mighty monkey in a pretty tense David Vs Goliath showdown, the player executes the beast by slicing off its head in a rather gruesome fashion.

Now the last time I checked, things have had their heads removed tend not to come back alive, so I alongside so many others likely put down the controller to do a little victory dance or take a sip of water after sweating out all their liquids. Yet the Guardian makes a right monkey out of you by getting back up for a second round and even picks up the sword you decapitated it with in an almost mocking gesture.

"Cheers for scratching that itch mate, here have your pen knife back"

What ensues is a boss battle where all of the previous moves now have different windups, animation steps, and range, flipping everything you thought you knew about this boss quite literally on its head. Worse still even after defeating the boss in this form, it comes back AGAIN later in the game for another tussle! YOU DAMN DIRTY APE GET IN THE BLOODY GRAVE!
