8 Video Game Fan Theories So GOOD They Became Real
Those great fan theories so undeniable they got made canon.

Theory-crafting is simply a fun part of being a fan, and while the vast majority of fan theories are nothing more than playful conjecture, there are exceptions where they're so damn good, and make so much sense, that they end up taking on a life of their own.
Perhaps the fandom as a whole embraced a theory so enthusiastically that the developers of the franchise itself decided to make it canon at some point, maybe in a sequel or associated piece of media.
And that's absolutely true of these 8 video game fan theories, each of which captured the fandom's imagination so much that the developers couldn't help but pay attention and, ultimately, confirm it themselves.
From decade-long speculation about the true nature of a certain character, to ingenious musings that just made too much sense not to be true, and even jokey gags that the developers clearly ended up loving, these theories all became true in the long run.
And like that, the fanbase breathed a sigh of relief, content that all their theorising and agonising over these plot points was finally worth it in the end...
8. Mary's Body Is In James' Car - Silent Hill 2

Ever since Silent Hill 2 was originally released in 2001, there's been a prominent fan theory that the body of James' dead wife Mary is actually inside the very car he drove to Silent Hill in.
Considering it's ultimately implied that James killed a terminally ill Mary shortly before the events of the game and then drove to Silent Hill, it makes a macabre amount of sense that the thoroughly traumatised James would do this.
This would also vibe with the "In Water" ending, where James drives his car into Lake Toluca with Mary's body inside, even though Konami has made it clear that none of the game's endings are definitively canon.
However, in 2012 the game's lead designer Masahiro Ito claimed that Mary's corpse was indeed in the car - in the back seat, to be precise.
And this was finally confirmed with last year's Silent Hill 2 remake, where players manipulated the camera to clip inside James' car at the start of the game, where a lumpen object can be seen covered with a blanket which is very clearly supposed to be Mary's body.
There you have it, car truthers - you won.
