8 Video Game ‘Final Instalments’ That Shouldn't Actually Be The Last
4. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Pretty much everyone is excited for A Thief's End to drop this year, what with it being the long-awaited (second) finale to Naughty Dog's genre-defining Uncharted series, but should it really be the end to the adventures of Nathan Drake? Well, maybe it can be the end for Drake in particular, but shouldn't the series continue in one form or another? Ignoring the disastrous plans for a film that somehow ignored Nathan Fillion getting the lead role, Uncharted has cemented itself as a key harbinger of quality for the third-person action adventure on consoles, alongside spearheading Sony's PlayStation brand as well. Drake himself has only gotten more iconic as the years have gone by, so with this in mind it doesn't sound like the series will be calling it a day by the time its fourth entry wraps up in a few months time. The charismatic treasure hunter himself doesn't even have to take the reigns of the franchise anymore, as it has an absolutely stellar supporting cast of characters to pull from and place on the centre stage. On the other hand, getting a developer to continue might be a tad trickier, seeing as though this will supposedly mark Naughty Dog's departure from the series. Either way, fans aren't going to want to part with Nolan North's most famous role yet, even if it is looking increasingly likely that it will be the case come April.
WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well.
In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
