8 Video Game ‘Final Instalments’ That Shouldn't Actually Be The Last

1. Crash Bandicoot (With Naughty Dog Returning)

It may almost be eight years since we last saw Crash get the video game treatment, but confound it if we're not allowed to hope for another entry. Last being seen in 2008's Mind over Mutant, the friendly orange marsupial has yet to receive a current-gen title of his own, which is a shame considering just how much of an ambassador he is for gaming as an avenue of entertainment. It would have to have some serious talent behind the project to execute on years of rumours though - the type that would only be made possible with Naughty Dog's return.
Seen above: The fake 'screenshot' that had 90s gamers' hearts racing across the first half of 2015. Despite Activision's long detested hoarding of the rights to the franchise, there's still always hope that somehow, some way, the bandicoot's preeminent guardians could mark their return to the lighthearted titles the studio first made its name on. The platforming genre Crash once called home may now belong to a bygone era of the medium, but it's more than overdue a comeback - especially seeing as Yooka-Laylee and Ratchet & Clank are landing in 2016, too. Who better to lead the charge than one of Naughty Dog's best loved icons? Are there any 'last' gaming instalments you wish didn't end their franchise? Post a comment below!
Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
