3. Ethan's Incriminating Behaviour - Heavy Rain

Though it's still full of David Cage-isms and goes down some completely preposterous routes, Heavy Rain is probably Quantic Dream's most accessible and tightly-woven games. The story, all about the search for the 'Origami killer' as told through the perspectives of a bunch of different characters, is genuinely gripping, as players are tasked to unravel just who the criminal is.

Of course, Cage and his team didn't want to make it too obvious, and sprinkled in a bunch of red herrings to throw players off the scent. The biggest one surrounded Ethan, a father whose son Shaun has been kidnapped by the killer, and whose tragic backstory heavily hints at the kind of psychological break that could send him down a murderous path.

Arousing even more suspicion, the game also depicts Ethan having blackouts around the time the Origami killer strikes, even showing him waking up holding an origami figure.

The thing is, even when the real killer is discovered, Ethan's strange behaviour is never explained. Deleted scenes shed more light on the issue, but the final game never bothers to explain why Ethan was so shady.
