8. Demon's Souls

As many of you know, Demon’s Souls is a rather hard game. But not hard enough, as far as the devs were concerned.

On Halloween in 2009, for some reason or another From Software made the game even harder by upping the damage that the player took, as well as reducing the damage they'd deal by up to a third in some places. This PR stunt played into the challenging nature of the game in such a way that fans were begging to have it added back in for future instalments, but alas nothing has been done in a similar sense since.

Imagine not knowing this and playing the game online on the Hallowed Eve, getting your back stabbed more than when your mate tells you he’s a blade of the Dark Moon before it turns out he’s a fan of the Darkwraiths…. and then he stabs you in the back!
