8 Video Game Spin-Offs That Broke EVERYTHING

6. Gears Of War Judgment

There’s an iconic mission and preceding scene in the original Gears of War where our team of rough and tough soldiers comes across the Kryll. These typically subterranean creatures are actually negatively affected by light and so only come out at night. As such, the player moves quickly between light sources lest they get cannibalised by the Kryll.

To emphasise the hunger of the monsters, they’re even shown to chow down on the disgusting Locust enemies without discrimination nor hesitation.

The Kryll later appear in the series, although it’s shown that the Locust have mastered ink grenades to command them to their advantage and General RAAM even has a mysterious, unexplained control over them.

However, the game’s prequel Gears of War Judgment undoes so much of this.

In this game, the Kryll are quite unexpectedly happy to be encountered during the day time, which absolutely undoes everything that makes them interesting. Furthermore, they can even fight alongside the Locust even without ink grenades or RAAM in sight.

This has set both fans and developers off trying to justify these facts by haphazardly explaining that they will ignore one meal if much tastier humans are potentially up for grabs and that “there could be various species of Kryll”.

What a convenient way to cover up a very glaring plot inconsistency!
