A cult classic of the PS2 era, Dark Cloud needs to be revisited in some fashion.

A remake or reboot initially comes to mind, but the IP could find unprecedented success in an anime film if given the opportunity. The game featured significant role-playing game elements, alongside some brilliantly designed characters and settings. All of these were meticulously crafted into an intriguing story, which highlighted fantasy, action, and mystery to great effect.

While a Legend of Zelda film remains in development hell, Dark Cloud has all the visuals and compelling story elements fulfilled to translate into an amazing anime film, about a diverse, ragtag group of heroes banning together to rebuild a world that an evil force has decimated can be highly engrossing.

This may be the best direction to present the film, as previous manga (such as Dragon Ball) strayed too far away from what made source material beloved by fans when it made the jump to live-action. Not unlike The Maze Runner film series, the Dark Cloud protagonists can emulate the camaraderie between the Gladers on their journey to defeating the villainous WCKD.

We only have to look to the recently confirmed Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf anime movie to know that a video game IP can succeed, regardless of film presentation. It's about time that Dark Cloud receive that same treatment.
