8 Video Games Mistakes The Fans Corrected
5. LUA Script - Metroid
There are plenty of examples of franchises that got better with time. It’s not that their first outing was bad, oftentimes far from it, but that sequels made sure to work on any issues that both the developers and fans found in the finished project.
For example, some of the many things that made Super Metroid great was the quality of life improvements. It’s kind of remarkable to think about playing such a game without a map but if you wanted to go back to the original title then that’s the reality you were faced with.
By nature of design, Metroid’s planet Zebes is a maze to navigate but the restrictive graphics of the NES don’t help things either and it is frustrating to feel as though you’re getting lost just because a game is dated. Metroid’s LUA script retroactively brings some of Super’s tweaks back into the original.
The brand new map screen slides seamlessly into this classic, showing players where Samus is in relation to everything else and it makes a world of difference. Additionally, there’s also a Super Metroid style inventory screen which makes swapping between weapon types a breeze.
Tweaks to classics to make them a little more welcoming to play are always a good thing, and Metroid’s LUA script is one of the most needed alterations.
