Bungie’s 2017 shooter Destiny 2 got off to a solid start but it’s been a long road for the live service shooter since its launch in 2017 and things have, well, changed a little, and you guys want it brought to light. The game went free-to-play in October of 2019 which was a cool thing unless you bought it full price, and then it started charging players for a bunch of standard core gameplay features which is a way less cool thing.

Destiny: The Taken King snagged a spot on our last list for locking paying players who didn’t upgrade to the expansion out of the game, but Bungie are nothing if not consistent because they’ve earned a place on this one with their sequel, too.

Dungeons are one of the central activities you’ll be able to tackle to help boost your power level and get your hands on better loot. These were originally free to all players and now you need a pass to access them which can only be obtained with your real world dollars. Bizarrely, though understandably if you’re Bungie and after a cash grab, these aren’t included in the expansions, instead it’ll cost you 2000 silver.

Of course you can’t buy that increment of the in-game currency so you have to get 3000 silver which is 45 Australian dollars. Insane.

They’ve also sunsetted certain content packages like the initial main story and the Forsaken expansion which is a really pretty way of saying, “Remember that thing you paid for? Yeah, you can’t play that any more.” Not to mention how pricey their DLC is. Sure, the game is technically free to play but if you want to play a semi-comprehensive collection of its content you’re going to be paying well over $200.

Unfortunately the studio has learned they can gate content away from players and ask for them to pay for it later and be successful but as we’ve well and truly highlighted, it’s a scummy practice.
