8 Video Games That Reward You For Not Playing Them
9. Undertale's Combat System Involves Attacks Which Need To Be Ignored
Released in 2015 for PC, Undertale quickly rose in popularity becoming one of the year's most talked about games, selling over a million copies and winning a bunch of prestigious awards. The game is unique for its bizarre characters, surreal humour and the fact that you can complete the game without killing a single bad guy.
For an RPG Undertale's combat system is quite notable. While constructed in a turn-based fashion, it's not as simple as merely pressing a button and dealing damage. Attacking requires timing to inflict more pain whereas defending is constructed like a bullet hell shooter, wherein the player controls a tiny heart representing their life and must dodge an onslaught of attacks.
What's intriguing, however, is that these attacks are colour-coded and must be dealt with in several ways. One of the most common attack colours is blue. Blue attacks demands not that the player perform intricate dodges, but that they do nothing at all, allowing the attack to pass right through them so they remain unharmed. It's a small detail, but resonates remarkably well with the game's theme of potential mercy.
