3. Halo: Combat Evolved

Much like Nintendo without Mario, it is hard to ever imagine Xbox without Halo and the Master Chief leading the charge. For almost over 20 years now this super soldier has been tied to the brand and really helped Microsoft get their console off the ground, but first, they had to snatch Bungie away from Apple.

A long time ago back in 1999 Halo was shown off at Macworld by the late Steve Jobs under the title of The Santa Machine. You can’t make this stuff up. After being turned to the PC side of things and leaving Mac in the dust, Bungie retooled this from a strategy focused affair into a first-person shooter.

Halo was born and along the way other aspects of the game were dropped like dinosaurs that the player could mount. 20 years on and with the launch of Halo Infinite around the corner any month now, it is hard to think just how different the industry would be if this game remanded a strategy focused Mac title.
