8 Video Games That Tragically Wasted Their Genius Premise

1. Super Mario 3D World

As confusing as it may seem, the placement of Nintendo's Super Mario 3D World in this list can be justified by exposing the tiniest chink in it's armour that consequentially ruined its premise. As it stands, the critically acclaimed Wii U exclusive platformer doesn't seem to fit this list at all since it perfectly balances nostalgic platforming, innovative 3d environments and a perfectly balanced, competitive co-op multiplayer almost perfectly. So what's wrong in 3D World? Believe it or not, it's the multiplayer. Again, SM3DW features what is considered the most balanced €“ if not best -- multiplayer experience of all Super Mario games. However, that's true only to those who have never heard or cared for the online experience. Sadly Nintendo hasn't either, which is why all of those who own the game are forced to put up with sharing the experience strictly on a couch. What's worse is that the Wii U currently supports only one Gamepad, forcing the other three players to fend with Wii Remotes and Pro Controllers. hence, someone is obviously going to feel left out from experiencing the console's marvellous novelty that combines companion devices with peripherals. Besides that, nothing else seems to interfere with SM3DW's overall appeal. But for those who enjoy playing their friends, family and strangers from around the world, the appeal feels compromising.
