5. Commit To Cooperative Play

Perhaps the most universally held dream for a Pokémon game, especially amongst the most long standing fans, is some kind of MMORPG. Part of that is the appeal of a large, interconnected world but the other is the ability to play alongside friends.

Scarlet and Violet peeked inside the box of possibilities with this one and it was a heavily advertised feature that you could explore the world with up to three friends. And, for the most part, it’s awesome: you can explore the world together, take selfies, battle and watch each other battle other trainers. It’s nearly flawless.

However, the caveat is that you can’t actually go through the story together. You can both be in the same world but you’re resigned to doing the major parts of it alone. Because of the way that the game’s plot centres around a certain group of characters and each player’s own motorbike-dragon, you can’t contribute to your friend’s story.

Which feels like a missed opportunity and a tease. It wouldn't be all that hard to just fully commit to games that are utterly, completely co-operative. Previous title have had sections where trainers fight in double battles, so why not bake that concept into the game if you’re playing with a buddy?

From the lowliest trainer to the champion of the Elite Four - it would certainly make for a different and altogether more memorable experience.
