8 Ways The Gaming Industry Can Improve
4. Give Remasters And Remakes Care And Attention
I feel like I could just show a picture of the horror show that was the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition and be done with this entry, as simply put, this should never be allowed to happen.
With the likes of GTA, the comedically bad Silent Hill HD Collection, and the ungodly Warcraft Reforged stinker, the gaming industry has rewarded fans for their devotion and support over the years with titles that resemble utter skip fires which burn nostalgic love to cinders.
Each of these was lazily churned out to cash in on a beloved IP, and in some cases were manufactured by sub-companies with no tangible connection to the source material and thus lack the understanding of what made the title great in the first place.
However as much as this entry is about Remasters and Remakes being treated with care and respect, it also allows me to launch into a tangental point which is just as important, as while it's atrocious and completely unacceptable that these types of "remasters" bomb the reputation of the game they're trying to champion, it's even worse than in many cases these are the only versions available to the public.
With GTA and Warcraft, previous versions of the game were delisted from storefronts meaning that the hugely inferior versions were all that players had access to. It's not uncommon for publishers to rewrite their own history, but here it was like they copied homework notes from a blurry PNG image of a post-it note, two minutes before the hand-in date.
