The Game Bakers

There's no beating around the bush when I say that Furi is a game that will have your trousers down more than a few times, and it's red hot poker style gameplay will most definitely brand your buttocks as it then proceeds to kick your teeth in.

What I'm trying to say is that it's hard. Very hard. It's brilliant don't get me wrong but it's definitely that type of game that will break your wrists before ever trying to hold the players hand.

Or so it would seem, because as it turns out, this game actually takes it easy on you when a boss reaches their final phase!

As part of the "mega game dev threat" that hit twitter in 2017, Emeric Thoa the Creative Director behind Furi revealed that as a boss fight wore on and they entered their final phase so too did the player enter a divergance between visual design and gameplay difficulty.

Despite the moves being unleashed by these bosses looking more and more elaborate, the actual damage dealt and timing windows to avoid them were dropped and raised respectively, thus making for a boss that looked far harder than it actually was.

The design philosophy behind this was that it would empower the player to make them feel all the more like an all conquering warrior when they landed that last blow. Pretty clever stuff right?
