8 Weirdest Enemies Cut From Video Games

5. Various Enemies (Silent Hill)

The Silent Hill games are rather strange and trippy to play, and this vibe extends to its enemy types. Across the series you'll encounter undead nurses, crawling slurpers, and the famous pyramid head, but the franchise's variety of foes was, at one point, almost even weirder.

Hackers who dug deep within the original Silent Hill game found references to no less than seven unused enemy types, and each is as peculiar as they are terrifying. Files with names like "BTFY" "FRG" and "MKY" have been uncovered by dataminers over the years, and on occasion, have even been imported into the game, so we can see what they might have looked like in the playable build.

These seven enemy types include twisted, horrifying versions of creatures like snakes, frogs, manta rays and even monkeys, which fits with the series' tendency to take something normal, and transform it into a nightmare. It's unknown what these enemies would have done in the game - or how far along in development they got - but these deformed beasts haunt the game's files to this day.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
