8 Worst Things About Being A Gamer In 2016

1. Developers Can Outright Lie And Get Away With It

Yes, I'm talking about No Man's Sky. I know it's overdone at this point, but the game has set a terrifying precedent for the future of video games, especially with the increase in prominence of indie developers.

In its simplest form, No Man's Sky was founded on a bed of lies. Yes, lies. Developer Sean Murray misled consumers on countless occasions, promising features and abilities simply not present in the base game, including the ability to meet other players. By the time the gaming world realised they'd been tricked, a staggering number of copies had been sold, and the Hello Games went silent.

Sure, there's recently been a big patch for the game, but it didn't actually add most of the boasted features. And even if it had, it's not okay for a game to be gimped upon release and then fixed up almost four months later.

No Man's Sky was sold to consumers on multiple false premises, yet there have been absolutely no consequences for the developer.

What exactly does that mean for the gaming industry going forward? It's an incredibly depressing sign of things to come.
