As a lot of games are these days, the first confirmation that a new Need For Speed game was coming came from a report of EA's financial conference call to shareholders. Discussing their upcoming titles, a new entry in the iconic racing series was name-dropped, leading many to believe that it would make a grand return at EA Play.

However, the game didn't show up on the publisher's itinerary for the weekend, and EA got out ahead of the disappointment by officially confirming the new title... in a blog post. Written by a member of the DICE team, the post revealed that the game is indeed releasing in 2019, but that the devs aren't quite ready to show it off just yet, wanting to make sure the game makes the best first impression possible.

Not having anything to show this late in the game could be a red flag, but considering how lifeless EA's E3 announcements have been in the past, it might be better to give the title its own, isolated unveiling later to celebrate the franchise's 25th anniversary.
