9 Bizarre Lawsuits Filed Against The Grand Theft Auto Series

9. Sued By Jack Thompson Over Police Shooting

Back in 2003, a teenager named Devin Moore shot and killed two police officers, before stealing their vehicle and escaping the scene of the crime. Moore's attorney, Jack Thompson, sought damages from Take-Two Interactive, Sony Entertainment, Gamestop and Wal-Mart for the incident, claiming that Grand Theft Auto had incited the crime. In 2006, the case was thrown out and Thompson's permission to appeal was denied. He later stated in an interview:

"There's no doubt in my mind [...] that but for Devin Moore's training on this cop killing simulator, he would not have been able to kill three cops in Fayette, Alabama who are now dead and in the ground. We are suing Take-Two, Sony, Wal-Mart, and GameStop for having trained Devin Moore to kill. He had no history of violence. No criminal record".

Thompson has quite the history with the Grand Theft Auto series, and this was neither his first nor his last attempt the blame the games for encouraging acts of violence and murder.
