9 Bizarre Lawsuits Filed Against The Grand Theft Auto Series

1. Sued Over Hot Coffee

Buried in San Andreas' files, inaccessible to players, is a rather explicit sequence in which protagonist CJ is depicted having sexual intercourse with his girlfriend. Though the scene is fairly tame by modern standards, it was deemed inappropriate at the time and subsequently removed from the final game. Of course, when the game was released on PC a year later, hackers uncovered the scene and immediately reinserted it back into the game, which unsurprisingly lead to a lawsuit. Initially, Rockstar claimed that the scene had been created by fans and added to the game by modders; however, when it was later revealed that the same scene was present in both the Playstation 2 and Original Xbox versions as well, Rockstar had to face up to the music. In order to avoid further bad press, the company eventually settled for just over $20 million. Ouch. Why Rockstar didn't completely remove the scene from the game is a mystery, but as it stands, Hot Coffee is one of only a few successful lawsuits to ever be filed against the Grand Theft Auto series.
