9 Fan-Made Mods That Make Great Video Games Even Better

4. Dark Souls - DSfix

Considering the modest success of Demon's Souls, Miyazaki-san and the rest of FromSoftware could never have foreseen the explosion in popularity that would accompany its spiritual successor.

Everybody wanted a slice of the Dark Souls pie in 2011, including PC audiences. The only problem was, the developer had little to no experience with the platform, which resulted in an inevitably messy end result when the port did finally arrive.

Among those quirks was the inability to run the dark fantasy RPG at 60fps, a non-existent visual upgrade and, yep, a carryover of the infamous frame rate stutters that plagued console players as the ventured deep into the bowels of Lordran.

Thankfully, modder Durante came to the rescue with DSfix, an easy-to-use band-aid that achieved what FromSoft couldn't - the elimination of performance hiccups and a superior resolution.

The 60fps issue was never resolved, but there's little need to worry about that now. Dark Souls Remastered is a reality, and Bamco's promising that the silky-smooth holy grail that is 60 frames will be available this time around.

Fingers crossed.
