9 Fan-Made Mods That Make Great Video Games Even Better

1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Enderal

While wet behind the ears Dovahkiin were taking their first tentative steps across the snow-touched Northern province of Skyrim in 2011, a small band of German-born modders had begun pursuing an idea so grand in scope and ambition that it took more than four years and a total of over 30,000 man hours to see the dream reach fruition.

Enderal: The Shards of Order was the end result, gifting all owners of Bethesda's RPG epic an adventure so fundamentally different to the core game that to describe it as anything other than a full-fledged game unto itself would be a gross inaccuracy.

As per its dedicated Nexus Mods hub, Enderal boasts up to 120 hours' worth of professionally voice-acted content and a standalone campaign featuring an overhauled skill/class system to boot. Hell, there's even a handful of motion-captured animations thrown in to compliment Bethesda's own, and the only price of admission is that you own a legitimate copy of Skyrim.

The perfect means of whittling away the months - that's the plan, at least. Who knows how much longer we'll be forced to wait for the inevitable sequel - until Bethesda finally gets its priorities straight and announces The Elder Scrolls VI.
