Final Fantasy Tactics is arguably the greatest Final Fantasy ever made - often given the moniker 'the best FF game without a number' in order to stop nerd factions from erupting into violent warfare. Regardless of where the game fits in the spectrum of Final Fantasy it is without a doubt one of the greatest games to come out of the '90s. Between its visuals, awesome soundtrack, and fantastic story it's already set up to be a good game - add in the fact that it was fun to play with solid controls as well and you might understand why it sold over one million copies in 1997, alone.

FFT spawned a few spin-offs for Nintendo's portable units and it's world of Ivalice was the setting of a few other Squaresoft games, including Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy 12. It got a PSP port with new art, an updated - and much needed - localization, and some voice acting. But nothing has been able to meet the original's level of success, or quality.

Cue small company 6 Eyes Studio - the developer of such classics as, well...actually Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark was their first game. And what a game it was! Released to positive acclaim in early 2019, it is largely considered to be FFT's spiritual successor. Though the story, audio, and UI is a bit more flat than what Squaresoft pulled off in '97, it's definitely a solid revitalization for a small indie studio to achieve.
