3. Giygas Is A Fetus (Earthbound)
One of the more barmy and imaginative theories out there comes from the classic game Earthbound, where it is believed that the JPRG's final boss battle is, in fact, an abortion. Giygas is the boss's name, and his final form is a red amorphous shape, until you think about it a little bit harder. Doesn't that look a little like the ultrasound of a fetus? Furthermore, the passage you have to pass through to get to the battle looks somewhat like a cervix, and when you consider that you're sent back in time to defeat him at a less-evolved stage, it seems pretty clear that you're essentially performing an abortion, right? To make things even a little more weird, Giygas' weird-ass dialogue is taken almost verbatim from a rape victim in a film the writer watched. This is a game where somebody purged some
serious demons, but it's cleverly cosseted into the fabric of the game such that it has never caused too much of an uproar.
