9 Launch Games That Singlehandedly Made Their Consoles Worth Buying
2. Soulcalibur - Dreamcast
Sonic's mascot status combined with Sega's aggressive marketing made sure that Sonic Adventure was the game that every potential Dreamcast owner wanted back in '99 and it was, despite retrospectives looking upon it with a modest sense of disdain for introducing atrocities such as Big the Cat, a solid launch title. But the best? Not even close. Those top honours go to Namco's Soulcalibur.
To this day, the weapon-based brawler is considered to be not just a defining entry in the genre, but one of the best video games of all time.
Chock-full of unique, identifiable characters like Nightmare, Ivy and Siegfried, Soulcalibur's roster didn't just burst with diversity, but personality backed up with a suite of different modes and unlockables, the ever-so-sweet cherry on top being its pioneering eight-way movement system.
Living up to that legacy with this year's Soulcalibur VI is going to be tough, but judging from what we've seen so far, the developers are on the right track.
The Legend Will truly Never Die.
