9 Major Talking Points That Will Define Fallout 4

8. Sporadic Tutorial Placement & Execution

Tutorials in video games can always have a tendency to hold your hand just that little bit too much - and as such, Fallout 4 both exceeds and falls down in its telling of how to directly control your character. The vast majority of your prompts appear contextually, rather than being walked through as part of a larger segment, meaning depending on how fast you're rocketing through various sections - pulling up the Pip-Boy, checking the map, fighting an enemy, picking up loot, crafting etc. - you'll be BOMBARDED with boxes of text to read and take in. The whole time the game keeps going, continually updating its messaging for whatever action you're doing - it's all a bit of a mess, and I can only imagine how confusing the "Here's how to use VATS" part of the intro would be to new players. Worse still, is the implementation of Settlements (more on them in a minute), as you'll get thrown into an area the game tells you to build within, without any guidance, rhyme or reason. There's literally nothing in the base-building aspect of the game that has an iota of relevancy to what's going on, and you'll simply question if you're playing the game right when you realise you can disassemble the entire town you're in to make another one, apparently just for the sake of it.
