9 Meaningful Video Game Choices That Didn’t Actually Mean Anything
7. Pokémon Red & Blue - Joining Team Rocket
The original Pokemon Game Boy games actually offered you the chance to join Team Rocket - the gang of no-good-doers responsible for causing mischief all across the Kanto region.
As you arrive in Cerulean City and head north across Nugget Bridge, you will face up against 5 trainers one by one until you reach the trainer at the other end of the bridge, who congratulates you and rewards you with your prize nugget for completing Nugget Bridge.
In a twist ending to the challenge, the final trainer asks you: "By the way, would you like to join Team Rocket?" He even explains that they are an evil organisation that uses Pokemon for their evil deeds.
You are shocked, and appalled, and would have likely chosen to repel the offer immediately, except the game completely takes over and answers the question for you, completely thieving you of any actual chance to impact the situation. What if we had fancied the chance to join up with the dastardly Pokemon thieves? With our ability, we could have risen the ranks in no time, and taken over the world!
Thanks for an actual meaningful choice, Pokemon.
