9 Phenomenal Video Games That Cost Absolutely Nothing

6. Pokémon GO

Phenomenons like those caused by Pokémon Go happen but once in a blue moon. Despite the name it carries, nobody saw the impending explosion in popularity of Niantic's mobile blockbuster coming in the summer of 2016, but when it happened - boy, was it special.

By all accounts, it was a miracle. Strangers on the street, in parks and on public transport all began talking to each other, being social in scenarios where before, a curt 'Hello' would have sufficed for most situations. Millions turned out in droves to visit Pokéstops, co-operatively search out-of-the-way areas for the more elusive 'Mons and generally had an all-around good time of it.

But like all crazes, Pokémon Go's appeal quickly tapered off, a reality likely hastened by a lack of new features, but Pokemon Go still remains a significant milestone in free gaming, not least for its universal appeal having been responsible for bringing people together on a global scale, all in the name of Catching 'em All.
