Leading up to the release of the original Knights of the Old Republic, publisher LucasArts realised that they had something special on their hands. With Bioware not returning for the sequel though, the company turned to Obsidian Entertainment to craft a worthy follow-up, in the hopes of striking while the iron was hot.

Unfortunately, the publisher was a bit too eager to capitalise on the Star Wars hype, demanding that the sequel be completed in only 14 months by as few people as possible. Just over a year would have been an incredibly limited amount of time for any game to be made at the time, but for an RPG as big and complex as Knights of the Old Republic, it was impossible.

Consequently, despite wanting to make the best product they could, the studio just didn't have the time they needed to finish the project. As a result entire features were cut or left half finished, with the title's ending in particular abruptly coming to a close as the developers were unable to craft the finale they wanted.
