9 Reasons Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Already Better Than GTA 5
7. MASSIVE Combat Changes: How Weapons Fire, Cleaning & Specific Loadouts
Simply down to the speed and general pace of combat in GTA - or the fact you were always going from mission to mission - chances are you thought of weapons not in terms of specific models, but more "rifle", "shotgun", "grenade launcher" etc.
All that changes in Red Dead, as Rockstar have implemented a TON of weapon-specific mechanics. First is you have to tap the fire button after each round to manually pull back your pistol's hammer (though this will likely change with upgraded weapons), and second you can double tap a shoulder button after reloading to spin the gun, before using or holstering it.
Loadouts are taking a page out of Max Payne 3, in that you can only hold one pistol and one rifle - the latter being visualised on your person. Lastly, weapons and guns will get dirty, incentivising you to not only upgrade them, but RDR2 has an in-depth cleaning system to keep chances of survival high.
All of these changes mean combat has a defined weight, and there's a sense of causality to engaging with another human. Assumedly you'll become a better gunslinger alongside Arthur, but Rockstar are innovating in a way that perfectly twins realism with immersion.
