9 Reasons Resident Evil 7 Is 2017's First Must-Have Game
6. One Of The Best-Designed Game Maps In Years
Another influence on Resident Evil was clearly Dark Souls, as although the original game's mansion setting did mean you were forever looping to and fro between a sequence of rooms, RE7's map design feels more overtly like it's 'revealing' these interconnected pathways as you progress.
Over time you'll accrue a variety of keys that'll open up different parts of the mansion itself, providing just enough of a Metroidvania nod to encourage a spate of backtracking before progressing with the next main objective.
At the close of the game you'll have a solid grasp on how each building connects - a far cry from the timid sensation of edging forward you'll no doubt be attempting at the beginning.
