7. Some Of The Best Boss Fights In History

It’s hard to pick a favourite from the multitude of colossi, as each one functions perfectly as a boss. Serving as a constant test of the player’s skill and management of their stamina meter, the bosses are all challenging in their own ways. In some ways, the fights work as an outline for good boss design from their appearance reflecting the tone and style of the game and their mechanics function as perfect tests of player ability.

But if choosing a favourite, you can’t go wrong with either Avion, Hydrus or Dirge - three of the game’s high-points and three of my all-time favourite bosses. Each one requires you to pick your timing carefully and always be aware of the creature’s movements. Serving as three of the more creative experiences, they embolden the tense and epic gameplay the game is known for.

There is no greater moment than leaping onto the wings of Avion as it soars through the sky or riding alongside Agro as you try to evade Dirge. And genuine fear factor of Hydrus lurking beneath the water can unsettle even the sturdiest of stomachs.

But I swear to god, running out of grip on the last boss is the worst thing in the world. The rest of the game might be a genuine joy, the grip gauge on Malus is the devil incarnate.

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
