9 Reasons Why The Nintendo Wii U Was A Commercial Flop

6. Poor Third-Party Support

Strong third-party support is among a platform holder’s greatest assets and its absence has long put the Big N at a major disadvantage, like a level one Pikachu squaring off against a Mewtwo at level cap.

Software’s heavy hitters tentatively backed the Wii U at launch but EA was first to hop off the Nintendo train when its FIFA and Mass Effect franchises underperformed.

Assassin’s Creed maker Ubisoft heavily supported the system at first, bringing all of its key releases to it before making a gradual retreat as sales figures trickled in.

The Wii U quickly became the Windows Phone of the games console market and the NX (or whatever it ends up being called) runs the risk of death on arrival unless Nintendo finally wins over those elusive third parties.
