9 Secret Video Game Bosses You Need To Beat Before You Die

6. Culex - Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars

With turn-based combat already inspired by Final Fantasy, Super Mario RPG actually featured a ridiculously difficult optional boss that could have been ripped straight out of that iconic franchise.

Found in a surreal, cross-dimensional space hidden away behind a door in Monstro Town, Culex is aided in battle by four crystals representing the different elements. Though he's just hanging out there minding his own business, he strikes up a battle with Mario and his party because, as a two-dimensional being, he's shocked that the Nintendo mascots have more than a couple sides to them.

His wide variety of attacks can completely obliterate any defences you have, while the little damage you can inflict is minuscule in comparison to what he dishes out. All you can do is sit back and wait for your turn, which you know is never going to come once Culex is finished with never-ending series of sucker punches.

In his defence, you're the one trespassing and messing up his day, so you probably deserved to be kicked back to reality.
