9 Things No One Wants To Admit About Marvel's Spider-Man

3. The Pace Of The Story Overall

Spider Man Fisk Kingpin
Insomniac

A lot of Spider-Man is build. Building character, establishing key players in the story, slowly hinting at a handful of key elements that could happen - but mostly letting you get a feel for the version of Spider-Man Insomniac have created.

All of this is enjoyable, and every actor included does a spectacular job. However, it does drag. There's a push and pull, wannabe-detective narrative framed around Martin Li's reveal across the entire first half, and following Doc Ock coming out as the main villain pulling the strings, the closing act flies by in a pretty rushed way.

I'll get to the Sinister Six in a moment, but once the Raft prison break has happened, it feels like this is the culmination of everything from before, only... it lasts about a couple of hours, max.

Taking a step back and looking at the story on paper, we've got a good 12-15 hours of slow-burn build-up, followed by a release that doesn't get to bask in its preamble very much, because it's all over too soon.
